LexisNexis Mobile Apps

It’s easier than ever to do legal research on your iPad or smartphone. Lexis and Westlaw both have mobile apps but this post highlights LexisNexis new mobile apps for iPhone and iPad.

The 21st century lawyer is supposed to be someone who can whip out his iPhone or iPad to show the judge the case his opponent just quoted.  One app that will let him do that is LexisNexis’ Get Cases & Shepardize app available on iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lexisnexis-get-cases-shepardize/id336328468?mt=8.  You do need your LexisNexis ID and password to use this app.  Type in a citation and click get a document to retrieve a case.  You’ll find it looks very much like it does in Lexis on your desktop computer or laptop.  You can review your case instantly by reading the overview of the issues, rules, and reasoning.  The headnotes are there and you can even get an abbreviated Shepard’s treatment display identical to the Shepard’s summary we all see using regular Lexis.  You can even retrieve federal and state statutes.  Keyword searching is not available at this time.

Lexis owns Martindale-Hubbell and while you can get the full version in regular Lexis you can also go to lawyers.com on the Internet.  Lexis now has an app for lawyers.com available on iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id403765721?mt=8#

LexisNexis’  Martindale-Hubbell powers the app.  You can search more than 1,000,000 lawyers and law firms by name, practice area and location (current location or otherwise).

At the moment Lexis has concentrated on iPhone apps, stay tuned to this blog to find out whether they create apps for other platforms.
